چکیده

A very thin liquid jets can be obtained using electric fields. The electrically-driven bending instability of the jet enormously increases the jet elongation path and effectively leads to its tinning by very large ratios and can be used to produce nanofibres. The mechanism of electro-thinning of liquid jets, discovered almost one century ago, is yet not fully understood. In the following study detailed experimental data are collected for electrospinning of different liquids in the purpose to correlate these data with the existing models describing basic mechanisms responsible for the electrospinning.

Investigation of the Local Nusselt Number of the Symmetrical Liquid-Liquid Jets Emitting from a Nozzle

The aim of this paper is to study the local Nusselt number of the symmetrical liquid-liquid jets emitting from a nozzle. Equations obtained from theoretical works are arranged in the form of a computerized model. The validity of this model was tested by the data from an experimental paper [1]. After few adjustments the model predicted the experimental data with a reasonable accuracy. Making...

Control of the electric fieldepolymer solution interaction by utilizing ultra-conductive fluids

Dramatically raising the conductivity of a polymer solution by using a salt additive allows control over the electric field-induced jet feed rate when electrospinning from an unconfined fluid without altering the applied voltage. As the solution conductivity increases, the flow rate drops by an order of magnitude. At a high voltage level and fluid conductivity value, the jets undergo a whipping...

Experiments and modelling of electrospinning process

Very thin liquid jets can be obtained using electric field, whereas an electrically-driven bending instability occurs that enormously increases the jet path and effectively leads to its thinning by very large ratios, enabling the production of nanometre size fibres. Free surface electrospinning from a wire electrode

Electrostatic jetting from a free liquid surface offers an alternative to conventional electrospinning in which jets are emitted from spinnerets. In this work we analyze a system in which a wire electrode is swept (in a rotary motion) through a bath containing a polymeric solution in contact with a high voltage, resulting in entrainment of the fluid, the formation of liquid droplets on the wire...

Short Communication Emulsion electrospinning: Composite fibers from drop breakup during electrospinning

*Correspo Engineer USA. E-mail: v We evaluate the feasibility of electrospinning oil-in-water type emulsions. The emulsions had an aqueous solution of polyethylene oxide (PEO) as the continuous phase, and either mineral oil or a polystyrene (PS) in toluene solution as the drop phase. The Taylor cones and electrified liquid jets were stable even when the emulsion drops were as large as a few-ten...
